The JNU Career Center administers scholarships to learn Japanese language in Japan under the cooperative agreement with JE Career, Jeju Branch of Manabi Japanese Language Institute in Japan. The Manabi scholarship provides support for the students selected to learn Japanese and to experience the culture through organized classes and practical work while staying in Japan for a year.

— Term of scholarship: 1 year
— Departure for Japan: October 2009 and January 2010
— Number of scholarships: 5
— Locations in Japan: Tokyo or Nagano, whichever preferred

2.Eligibility
Student wishing to study in Japan, 6 months or more spent learning Japanese, GPA of B or better, born after 1980, and without legal restrictions for overseas travel.

3. Application forms
— Application form (download from the Career Center website), Academic Transcripts, Certificate of student standing (current, on leave of absence, graduated)
— Deadlines: May 20, 2009 for October departure; July 15, 2009 for January 2019 departure Send the application package via e-mail or FAX.

4. Screening
— Preliminary:  Application materials will be evaluated by a panel of examiners in Japan
— Final:  Interview by a Manabi representative from Japan

5. Scholarship conditions:
— Study manager: Manabi Japanese Language Institute (Nagano and Tokyo)
— Visa:  Japanese study visa (student visa)
— Program:

First 2 months ~ attend Japanese classes at different proficiency levels; 4 hours/day
Second session: 3rd-12th month: Mornings ~ Japanese lesson; afternoons~ practical work “arbeit”
Accommodation: Dormitory room (two per room)

6. Participants Expenses:
— Examination fee ~21,000 yen
— Tuition on admission ~52,500 yen
— Cost for accommodation, airfares, and other costs to be borne by the participant.
— Benefits: Waiver of 2 months tuition, 20% discount on the living expenses after two months.
